Little Food Pantry - Waupaca Public Library
The Little Food Pantry at the Waupaca Public Library is a local mission serving our community. It is a tiny space compared to most food pantries but has a significant impact on the Waupaca community and is used extensively. It is open during library hours, providing food and hygiene products to anyone in need. Adults as well as kids visiting the library after school and in the summer, are frequent visitors. The food pantry is supported by generous food donations from the community as well as financial donations. A refrigerator and freezer are part of the pantry which allows for fresh produce, and other donations like eggs, milk and frozen foods. Financial donations are used to buy food to keep the shelves stocked. This pantry is a much-needed resource in our community and helps fill the gap for those who suffer from food insecurities.
Thank you for supporting this much needed local ministry.
Crystal Lake will be collecting cereal and bars. World Communion Sunday will be celebrated with a money donation. We will also be collecting money for chickens for Northcott Neighborhood House in Milwaukee.
World Communion Sunday
Holy Communion joins us in Christian unity. This sacrament invites us to focus on the holiness of communion with God and one another. On World Communion Sunday, October 4th - United Methodists, in conjunction with other denominations and believers worldwide, participate in communion to recognize our unity in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. This universal and inclusive connection is the foundation of the annual special offering for WCS.
Your donations support racial and ethnic students in achieving their educational goals and transforming communities. Your generosity provides scholarships, grants, mentoring and training for leadership development. Fifty percent of the offering provides scholarships for graduate students from the U.S. and other countries. Thirty-five percent supports racial and ethnic scholarships for students pursuing ordained ministry (deacon or elder) and includes a mentoring program. Fifteen percent funds Ethnic-In-Service Training Grant for leadership development, recruitment, training, and retention of ethnic United Methodist persons in leadership positions in every level of the church and its ministry.
The United Methodist Church, the world and our communities are in a time of transition. Now, perhaps more than ever, we are called to extend healing and hope which will guide us to becoming a new creation in Christ. Through our gifts and support, we can invest in talented, qualified students from around the globe to transform the world as witnesses for Christ.
October 4th bulletins will contain designated envelopes for this special offering. Enclose cash or write checks to FUMC with “World Communion Sunday” on the memo line.
Waupaca Learning Center Glove and Mitten Drive
Cold days are rapidly approaching. Every year, the Waupaca Learning Center has students who need warm clothing. This year, they are requesting gloves and mittens ONLY and gift cards in small denominations for any location that sells warm clothing for children. The WLC Social Worker told me that they have had more monetary donations than usual, allowing her to place orders for needed items, plus they are included in the Coats for Kids drive. Throughout the month of October First UMC will be collecting new gloves and mittens for pre-K and grades 1 through 4. No larger sizes please as she said the older kids generally do not wear them. We’ll also be collecting gift cards in small denominations, such as $10 each, for stores that sell children’s winter clothing. Gloves and mittens can be placed in the wooden collection box in the sanctuary or on the Missions table in Hospitality Hall. No wrapping or gift tags. Gift cards can be placed in an envelope marked for the mission and placed in an offering plate. Monetary donations will be accepted and used by the Mission Team to purchase gift cards. Write checks to FUMC with “October mission” on the memo line or place cash in an offering envelope and label.
